Privacy policy
Last updated 11 September 2026
Know China AI is operated by Commontale, Inc., a Delaware corporation ("we"). This policy explains what we collect, why, who processes it for us, and your rights.
What we collect
We collect only what the service needs to work.
- Account data: your email address, a display name, and, if you sign in with Google, the name and avatar Google shares.
- Usage data: your questions, the answers and their citations, your searches, and usage counters (questions, tokens, plan).
- Billing data: your plan, renewal dates and Stripe customer id. Card details never reach us; Stripe holds them.
- Technical data: IP address, browser type and timestamps in server logs, kept for security and abuse prevention.
How we use it
To answer your questions and show your history; to run your plan and its limits; to send account emails (confirmation, sign-in links, receipts); to prevent abuse; to improve retrieval quality using aggregate, non-identifying statistics.
We do not sell personal data and we do not use your questions to train models.
Service providers
We rely on third-party providers for hosting, authentication, language models, web search, payment processing and email delivery. They process data only to provide those services to us, under their standard terms. Card details are handled by our payment processor and never reach our servers.
Retention
- Conversations and citations: until you delete them or your account.
- Search and usage logs: 90 days.
- Billing records: as long as tax law requires (typically 7 years), held by Stripe and in our ledger.
- After account deletion we keep a one-way hash of your email address so that the free trial cannot be claimed again; it cannot be turned back into your address.
Cookies
We set only the cookies needed to keep you signed in and to remember interface preferences. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies, so no consent banner is shown. If that changes, this policy and the site will change first.
Your rights
You can download everything we hold about you and delete your account at any time from the Account page. Deleting the account cancels any subscription and removes your data within 30 days, except billing records we must keep.
Residents of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, California and other jurisdictions with data protection laws have additional rights to access, correct, restrict or object; write to [email protected]. Our representative for the European Union and the United Kingdom under Article 27 of the GDPR and the UK GDPR is John P. Nolan, reachable through the same address.
Children
The service is for adults and students in higher education. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
Changes and contact
We will announce material changes by email or on the site. Questions: [email protected].
